Dmitriev Accuses Zelensky of Attempting to Undermine Republicans’ Position in the US

Moscow, The Gulf Observer: Russian Presidential Special Representative for Investment and Economic Cooperation with Foreign Countries and head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), Kirill Dmitriev, has criticised Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky over his recent remarks concerning US President Donald Trump and a possible energy ceasefire, accusing him of attempting to undermine the Republican Party ahead of the US midterm congressional elections.

In a statement posted on social media platform X, Dmitriev said Zelensky appeared not to have learned from previous mistakes and continued making statements that could weaken the position of Republicans ahead of the upcoming midterm elections.

Dmitriev made the remarks while responding to an interview Zelensky gave to Fox News, in which the Ukrainian president discussed the possibility of an energy ceasefire during negotiations in Abu Dhabi.

According to Fox News journalist Trey Yingst, who shared Zelensky’s comments on X, the Ukrainian president suggested that if Trump believed the ongoing conflict was affecting electricity prices in the United States, he could call for an energy ceasefire during the Abu Dhabi negotiations.

“If the American president thinks that this war has influence on the prices for electricity in the US, so he can ask energy ceasefire at the negotiations in Abu Dhabi,” Zelensky was quoted as saying.

Dmitriev’s criticism comes amid heightened political and diplomatic attention surrounding the Russia-Ukraine conflict and Washington’s efforts to promote negotiations aimed at ending hostilities.

The remarks also highlight the continuing debate over the proposed energy ceasefire and its potential implications for US-Russia-Ukraine relations ahead of the American midterm congressional elections.
