Uzbekistan’s Foreign Minister holds a meeting with Hungarian Counterpart

Budapest, The Gulf Observer: Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Vladimir Norov and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary Peter Szijjarto held a working meeting on Tuesday.

The Foreign Ministers discussed in detail the program and agenda of the talks as part of the official visit of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Hungary, considered the current state and prospects for the development of relations between the two countries.

It was noted with satisfaction that after the lifting of Uzbek-Hungarian relations in 2021 to the level of strategic partnership, the current high-level visit is a logical continuation of an active, comprehensive dialogue between countries, friendly and trusting relations between leaders.

The ministers agreed on the importance of continuing on regular basis bilateral political consultations between the foreign ministries, filling the quality content of the inter-ministerial Cooperation Program, calculated until 2023.

A striking confirmation will be the signing these days of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Information and Analytical Center for International Relations under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan and the Institute of Foreign Affairs and Trade under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary.

The exceptional relevance of actively promoting economic diplomacy through the implementation of joint projects in the automotive, pharmaceutical, construction, agricultural, tourism and other areas of mutual interest was also emphasized.

The ministers considered proposals to intensify the inter-parliamentary dialogue, strengthen ties in the field of education, including on the basis of the Stipendium Hungaricum program.

Particular attention was paid to deepening cooperation within the framework of international and regional organizations, in particular the UN, OSCE and OTC.

The Hungarian side reaffirmed its readiness to support Uzbekistan in the early signing of an updated Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement with the EU.

During the talks, there was also an exchange of views on certain aspects of international and regional politics, in particular the current situation in Afghanistan.

As a result, a briefing was held by the heads of the foreign ministries of the two countries for media representatives.
