ADP intercepts 1.5 tons of heroin worth AED150 million
ABU DHABI, TGO: Major General Staff Pilot Faris Khalaf Al Mazrouei, Commander-in-Chief of the Abu Dhabi Police (ADP), said the ADP has successfully intercepted 1.5 tons of heroin, in cooperation with the General Administration of Customs in Abu Dhabi.
The Anti-Drug Section at the ADP’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) detected a suspicious shipment that arrived from a neighboring country at Khalifa Port, meant to travel to a European country, he added. The ADP intercepted this smuggling operation, seizing a heroin shipment worth some AED150 million.
He also pointed out that addressing the smuggling of narcotics, which destroys societies, requires the cooperation of security departments, to address the advanced methods used to smuggle narcotics, amidst recent technological developments.
The ADP is keen to achieve the strategic objectives of the UAE’s leadership in maintaining the safety and security of the community, Major General Al Mazrouei said, affirming that the joint operation was in implementation of the objectives of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the ADP and the General Administration of Customs in Abu Dhabi.
He then thanked everyone who contributed to the operation and urged security personnel to exert further efforts to serve the country.
