Qatar Persists in Ceasefire Efforts for Gaza Amidst Complexities

Doha, The Gulf Observer: Dr. Majid bin Muhammad Al Ansari, the Official Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) of Qatar, affirmed the country’s unwavering commitment to achieving a ceasefire in Gaza despite facing numerous complexities. Speaking at a weekly media briefing, Dr. Al Ansari expressed regret that a ceasefire deal was not reached before the holy month of Ramadan, which could have ensured a reduction in escalation for the people of Gaza to observe the month without daily casualties.

He emphasized that Qatari efforts and communications persist with both parties involved, expressing hope for an agreement that guarantees a move towards calm before Eid Al Fitr. However, he acknowledged the challenging situation on the ground.

Dr. Al Ansari highlighted that Qatari, regional, and international efforts are ongoing to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza. He pointed out that the humanitarian situation has deteriorated, prompting the need for urgent actions.

Addressing the initiative for establishing a sea port in Gaza for aid delivery, Dr. Al Ansari clarified that the proposal is part of a series of initiatives aimed at increasing the entry of aid into the strip.

“Qatar, from the first day of the start of the crisis, announced its support for all efforts that enable aid to enter Gaza. Qatar accepts this proposal and will be among the supporters for the entry of aid through the sea corridor,” he stated.

In response to a question about pressuring Hamas for a truce, Dr. Al Ansari emphasized that Qatar communicates its views without applying pressure and seeks to encourage both parties to reach an agreement.

“Qatar is an honest mediator and engages positively in the ceasefire, working within the framework of a truce that can provide the appropriate conditions to stop the escalation,” he added.

Dr. Al Ansari also stressed that the aid through the sea port should not replace the land corridors, which Qatar consistently demands to remain open for the necessary aid to enter Gaza.

Regarding ongoing mediation efforts, he mentioned that Qatar, in collaboration with its partners, is actively working to halt the fighting before Eid Al Fitr. He disclosed that 85 planes carrying aid from Qatar have arrived in the Egyptian city of Al Arish through the Qatari Air Bridge to Gaza, including relief aid and shelter, totaling 2,506 tonnes.

Regarding the Arab Ministerial Committee on Gaza, Dr. Al Ansari highlighted its role in conveying the Arab and Islamic perspective to various international parties. He clarified that the committee conducts visits with the primary goal of communicating the message of Arab and Islamic countries to global leaders.
