Abdulmunem Alsayedohamed Re-elected President of Asian Jiu-Jitsu Union

Abu Dhabi, The Gulf Observer: In a momentous occasion marked by unanimity and fervor, Abdulmunem Alsayedohamed has been re-elected as President of the Asian Jiu-Jitsu Union (JJAU) for another term. The decision was made during the annual General Assembly meeting held today in Abu Dhabi, coinciding with the eighth Asian Jiu-Jitsu Championship.

The assembly, graced by esteemed dignitaries including Panagiotis Theodoropoulos, President of the Jiu-Jitsu International Federation (JJIF), Joachim Thumfart, Director-General of JJIF, representatives from the Olympic Council of Asia, JJAU board members, and heads of National Federations from across Asia, showcased the unity and dedication of the Jiu-Jitsu community.

Among the key appointments, Fahad Al Shamsi was reinstated as Secretary-General of the Union, while Takamasa Watanabe and Tareq Al Bahri assumed the roles of Deputy Secretary-General and Treasurer respectively. The assembly also sanctioned the formation of the new Executive Board for the Union, featuring Reda Monfaradi, President of the Bahrain Jiu-Jitsu Federation, as the First Vice President, alongside five regional Vice Presidents representing Mongolia, Thailand, Iraq, Kazakhstan, and India.

The proceedings of the assembly were overseen by the JJIF President, in conjunction with Suresh Gopi, senior advisor of JJAU, ensuring the adherence to protocols and transparency in decision-making.

The meeting served as a platform to highlight developmental endeavors across the continent, encompassing referee training programs, anti-doping initiatives, support mechanisms for national federations, and forthcoming continental championships, notably the 2024 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games slated for November 2024.

Furthermore, the assembly took stock of the remarkable surge in the number of accredited referees in Asia, currently standing at 45 referees from 15 countries. Plans were greenlit to augment the pool of referees from member national federations, with a concerted effort aimed at bolstering support for events hosted by these federations.

Expressing gratitude, Alhashmi, speaking on behalf of the JJAU, conveyed appreciation to the JJIF President and all assembly attendees for their unwavering commitment to the sport’s advancement in Asia.

“We are deeply honored by the General Assembly’s vote of confidence. Our dedication remains unwavering towards fostering the growth of Jiu-Jitsu across Asia, nurturing skilled personnel, and affording our athletes the opportunities they rightfully deserve,” remarked Alhashmi.

“We pledge to persistently consolidate our endeavors and foster collaboration to uphold integrity and solidarity as guiding principles, both in theory and in practice. Our aim is to ensure equitable opportunities for all athletes, and we pledge to spare no effort in fostering responsible, diligent, and cooperative engagement with all federations to elevate the sport of Jiu-Jitsu across the continent,” Alhashmi added emphatically.

The re-election of Abdulmunem Alsayedohamed as President marks a resounding vote of confidence in his leadership, setting the stage for continued progress and prosperity for Jiu-Jitsu in Asia.
