Jiu-Jitsu Asian Union Unveils Enhanced Safeguarding Programme for Safe Sporting Environments

Abu Dhabi, The Gulf Observer: In a significant stride towards ensuring the safety and well-being of participants within the realm of jiu-jitsu, the Jiu-Jitsu Asian Union (JJAU) has introduced an enhanced Safeguarding Programme, reinforcing its commitment to fostering secure sporting environments in collaboration with the Jiu-Jitsu International Federation (JJIF).

Building upon the foundation laid since November 2018, when the JJIF officially endorsed the Safe Sport Environment Policy, the federation has steadfastly advocated for the cultivation of a fun, healthy, inclusive, and safe atmosphere within jiu-jitsu. Central to this endeavor is the implementation of the Safe Jiu-Jitsu Policy, a cornerstone initiative championed by the JJIF and actively promoted across Asia.

Zaid Sami, serving as the Safeguarding Officer and Safeguarding Programme Director for both the JJIF and JJAU, emphasized the progressive evolution of the Safeguarding Programme. “We commenced the implementation of the Safeguarding Programme for major competitions last year under the auspices of the JJIF and JJAU, and now, we are extending its purview to encompass all facets of the sporting ecosystem,” stated Sami.

At its core, the Safeguarding Programme reaffirms JJAU’s fundamental mission of cultivating a safe and positive environment for all participants involved in jiu-jitsu. It underscores the organisation’s unwavering dedication to upholding the principles of respect, integrity, and excellence throughout the sport.

Grounded in robust policies, educational initiatives, and heightened awareness campaigns, the programme epitomizes JJAU’s resolute commitment to implementing stringent safeguarding measures aligned with global best practices. Central to its ethos is the provision of comprehensive education and training, aimed at equipping stakeholders with the necessary tools to identify, prevent, and swiftly address safeguarding concerns.

By instituting the enhanced Safeguarding Programme, JJAU not only reinforces its pledge to prioritize the safety and well-being of athletes, coaches, officials, and all individuals associated with jiu-jitsu but also sets a commendable precedent within the realm of sports governance. As the programme continues to evolve and expand, JJAU remains steadfast in its pursuit of excellence, ensuring that jiu-jitsu remains a beacon of sportsmanship, integrity, and inclusivity for generations to come.
