Turkish Coast Guard Rescues 37 Migrants and Detains 29 Others off Izmir Coast
Izmir, The Gulf Observer: The Turkish Coast Guard successfully rescued 37 irregular migrants and detained 29 others off the coast of Izmir province, according to a statement on the Coast Guard Command’s website on Sunday.
In the Karaburun district, a rubber boat carrying migrants experienced engine failure and began to drift, prompting a distress call. A Coast Guard team was dispatched to the area and successfully rescued 30 irregular migrants, including four children.
In a separate incident in the Cesme district, a Coast Guard boat rescued seven irregular migrants from a life raft that had been pushed into Turkish territorial waters by Greek units.
Additionally, off the coast of Urla district, Coast Guard teams intercepted a rubber boat carrying 29 irregular migrants, including eight children. These migrants were apprehended by the authorities.
After being processed, all the migrants were transferred to the Provincial Directorate of Migration Management for further assistance and management.
The Turkish Coast Guard continues to monitor and respond to migrant distress calls to ensure the safety and security of individuals in Turkish territorial waters.
