Ankara, The Gulf Observer: The Turkish National Defence Ministry announced on Monday that Turkish security forces have neutralized four YPG/PKK terrorists in operations conducted in northern Syria and Iraq.
According to the ministry’s statement released on Monday, three YPG terrorists were neutralized in the Euphrates Shield operation zone in northern Syria. Additionally, one PKK terrorist was detected in the Hakurk region of northern Iraq and neutralized by the Turkish Armed Forces.
“We continue to bury terrorists in their ditches,” the ministry added, emphasizing the ongoing efforts to combat terrorism in the region.
The term “neutralize” used by Turkish authorities implies that the terrorists in question either surrendered, were killed, or captured.
Ankara has launched several successful anti-terror operations since 2016 across its border in northern Syria to counter the formation of a YPG/PKK terror corridor and facilitate the peaceful settlement of residents. These operations include Euphrates Shield (2016), Olive Branch (2018), and Peace Spring (2019).
The PKK, designated as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States, and the European Union, has been engaged in a nearly four-decade-long terror campaign against Turkey. The group has been responsible for the deaths of more than 40,000 people, including women, children, and infants. The YPG is recognized as the PKK’s Syrian offshoot.
