Aliyev, Trump Reaffirm Commitment to Regional Peace and Azerbaijan-U.S. Strategic Partnership

Baku, The Gulf Observer: President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev held a telephone conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump on August 8, with the two leaders discussing regional peace, bilateral relations and the further development of the Azerbaijan-U.S. strategic partnership.
During the conversation, the presidents expressed satisfaction on the occasion of the anniversary of the Washington Summit. They emphasized that the Joint Declaration signed during the Washington Peace Summit in the presence of President Trump, along with the initialing of an agreement on the establishment of interstate relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, had helped bring an end to the conflict in the region and consolidate peace.
President Aliyev thanked President Trump for hosting the Washington Peace Summit and for his contribution to advancing the peace agenda. Trump, in turn, highly praised Aliyev’s role in the peace process.
The two leaders noted with satisfaction that peace and stability had been maintained in the region over the past year, with no incidents reported that could undermine the established peace.
They also welcomed positive developments in Azerbaijan-Armenia relations, including the export of Azerbaijani oil products to Armenia, the transit of cargo through Azerbaijan to Armenia and the launch of trade relations between the two countries.
Particular attention was given to the importance of the TRIPP project for strengthening regional connectivity. The presidents noted that work on the relevant transport infrastructure in Azerbaijan was nearing completion and expressed hope that construction of the project in Armenia would begin soon.
The two leaders also discussed matters on the bilateral agenda, describing the signing of a document on strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and the United States as a historic development.
They stressed that Azerbaijan-U.S. relations had reached a qualitatively new and higher level and had acquired a strategic character, with the partnership expected to contribute to peace and stability across the wider region.
President Aliyev also thanked President Trump for inviting Azerbaijan to the G20, describing the invitation as a manifestation of the friendly attitude toward Azerbaijan.
The presidents expressed confidence that the strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and the United States would continue to develop successfully.
