Kuala Lumpur, The Gulf Observer: Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim expressed his heartfelt condolences on Thursday to the victims of the devastating wildfires sweeping through Southern California, United States.
In a Facebook post, Anwar described the tragedy, which has claimed several lives, destroyed over a thousand structures, and displaced countless families, as one that resonates deeply with Malaysians.
“Malaysia stands in solidarity with the people and government of the United States during this difficult time,” Anwar said. “Our thoughts are with the communities affected by this crisis, as well as the emergency services heroically battling the flames.”
The wildfires, fueled by severe windstorms and dry conditions, have wreaked havoc across parts of north and northwest Los Angeles since Wednesday, January 8. At least five lives have been lost, with over 1,000 homes, businesses, and other structures reduced to ash. Emergency services continue to battle the flames under challenging conditions, as strong winds hinder containment efforts.
Prime Minister Anwar’s message underscores Malaysia’s commitment to supporting global communities during times of crisis and tragedy.
