Argentina Edge Egypt 3-2 to Reach World Cup Quarter-finals

Atlanta, The Gulf Observer: Defending champions Argentina staged a dramatic late comeback to defeat Egypt 3-2 in a thrilling FIFA World Cup Round of 16 clash on Tuesday in Atlanta, securing their place in the quarter-finals.
Egypt took an early lead through Ibrahim in the 15th minute and doubled their advantage in the 67th minute when Ziko found the net, putting Argentina under significant pressure.
However, the South American side responded with a remarkable late surge. Romero ignited the comeback with a goal in the 79th minute before captain Lionel Messi levelled the score five minutes later with his eighth goal of the tournament, making him the World Cup’s leading scorer. Fernandez then completed the turnaround with a stoppage-time winner in the second minute of added time.
The victory keeps Argentina’s title defence on track as they advance to the quarter-finals, where they will face Switzerland following the European side’s victory over Colombia on penalties.
Messi’s latest strike further strengthened his impressive tournament campaign, taking his tally to eight goals, the highest by any player in this edition of the FIFA World Cup.
