Moroccan Pharma Firm Galenica Enters Eurasian Market with First Medicine Shipment to Russia

Marrakech, The Gulf Observer: Moroccan pharmaceutical company Galenica has completed its first shipment of medicines to the Russian Federation in partnership with Asia Pharm Group, marking the Casablanca-based firm’s entry into the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) pharmaceutical market.

The milestone follows Galenica’s successful acquisition of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) certification and Eurasian Conformity (EAC) Marketing Authorizations, regulatory approvals required for the distribution of pharmaceutical products across the EAEU member states—Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia, and Kyrgyzstan.

With these approvals, Galenica has become the first Moroccan, Arab, and African pharmaceutical laboratory to obtain market access authorizations for the Eurasian Economic Union, paving the way for broader regional expansion.

The company’s medicines are now available in the Russian market across several therapeutic categories, including gastroenterology and treatments for cold-related illnesses, among others.

Russia’s Trade Representative in Morocco, Alexey Andreev, described the shipment as a significant step in strengthening bilateral economic cooperation. He said Morocco’s expanding pharmaceutical sector offers “new perspectives for widening Russo-Moroccan cooperation,” highlighting ongoing Russian pharmaceutical exports to Morocco as well as localization projects within the Kingdom.

Andreev noted that Galenica’s achievement creates favorable conditions for increasing the supply of Moroccan pharmaceutical products to the Eurasian Economic Union, describing the shipment as part of a broader framework for enhanced trade and industrial collaboration.

Galenica said the export reflects years of work to align its manufacturing processes with international regulatory and quality standards. Established more than four decades ago, the company produces a broad portfolio of pharmaceutical products in compliance with internationally recognized quality requirements.

In a statement, Galenica described the first shipment as “the initial materialization of this regulatory success” and the beginning of “a new dynamic of international development.” The company also acknowledged Asia Pharm Group for its role in facilitating access to the Russian market.

The EAC certifications and marketing authorizations obtained by Galenica also authorize the company to distribute its pharmaceutical products across all five EAEU member states, creating new export opportunities in markets that Moroccan pharmaceutical manufacturers have traditionally had limited access to.
