Azerbaijan and Kenya Explore Opportunities to Enhance Interparliamentary Cooperation

Baku, The Gulf Observer: Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Republic of Kenya, Sultan Hajiyev, held a meeting with Speaker of the Kenyan National Assembly, Moses Wetang’ula, to discuss avenues for expanding bilateral relations and enhancing interparliamentary cooperation.
During the meeting, Ambassador Hajiyev emphasized the friendly and cooperative relations that have steadily developed between Azerbaijan and Kenya over the past two decades. He highlighted Azerbaijan’s commitment to strengthening interparliamentary ties and underscored the importance of continued collaboration between the two nations on international platforms.
Speaker Wetang’ula, in turn, reaffirmed Kenya’s readiness to deepen cooperation at the legislative level and expressed support for initiatives aimed at expanding bilateral engagements. He welcomed efforts to further develop diplomatic, economic, and cultural relations between the two countries.
Ambassador Hajiyev also commended Kenya’s active participation in the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), hosted in Azerbaijan. He noted that the growing engagement between Azerbaijan and Kenya in addressing global challenges reflects a shared commitment to multilateral cooperation.
Speaker Wetang’ula praised Azerbaijan’s successful experience in organizing major international events, recognizing it as a valuable model for global dialogue and coordination.
In addition, Ambassador Hajiyev briefed the Speaker on various humanitarian and development projects undertaken in Kenya by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the Azerbaijan International Development Agency (AIDA). He also highlighted the positive impact of scholarships awarded to Kenyan students under the International Education Grant Program, launched in honor of National Leader Heydar Aliyev, which have contributed to fostering stronger people-to-people connections.
The meeting reaffirmed the mutual interest of Azerbaijan and Kenya in deepening their partnership through sustained dialogue and cooperative initiatives across various sectors.
