Azerbaijan, Ethiopia Seek to Deepen Bilateral Cooperation During High-Level Talks
Baku, The Gulf Observer: Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis, Sahiba Gafarova, met with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali on Tuesday as part of her official visit to Ethiopia, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation across key sectors.
The meeting focused on enhancing the longstanding friendship between Azerbaijan and Ethiopia and exploring new opportunities for mutually beneficial collaboration.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali praised Azerbaijan’s growing international standing, noting that the country’s remarkable progress under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev has been widely recognized by the international community.
Recalling his previous meetings with President Ilham Aliyev, the Ethiopian premier said the discussions had played a significant role in advancing bilateral relations and establishing a strong foundation for broader cooperation. He also conveyed his warm regards to the Azerbaijani President.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed expressed Ethiopia’s interest in expanding economic cooperation with Azerbaijan, with particular emphasis on implementing joint projects in the oil and gas sector.
Speaker Sahiba Gafarova highlighted the considerable potential for broadening bilateral relations into new areas of cooperation. She underscored the importance of the close and sincere relationship between the leaders of both countries, as well as sustained high-level contacts, in promoting stronger bilateral engagement.
During the meeting, Gafarova also briefed the Ethiopian Prime Minister on Azerbaijan’s large-scale reconstruction and restoration efforts in its liberated territories, which are being carried out through the country’s own financial resources.
Both sides emphasized the important role of interparliamentary cooperation in strengthening overall bilateral relations and expressed confidence that parliamentary ties would continue to develop successfully, contributing to closer collaboration across a wide range of fields.
