Azerbaijan Highlights Strong NATO Partnership and Ongoing Efforts in Humanitarian Mine Action in 2024
Baku, The Gulf Observer: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, in its 2024 annual press release, emphasized the continued significance of the Azerbaijan-NATO partnership, underscoring ongoing political dialogue, practical cooperation, and mutual visits.
The ministry detailed the continuation of both multilateral and bilateral foreign policy activities on military-political issues throughout the year. 2024 was notably marked by the 30th anniversary of Azerbaijan’s accession to the Partnership for Peace Framework Document, with a series of events organized to celebrate the milestone.
Apart from its collaboration with NATO, Azerbaijan has made addressing the issue of landmines a priority, as the country continues to deal with their widespread effects. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighted efforts to raise global awareness about large-scale humanitarian demining operations and attract international assistance.
Azerbaijan has remained diplomatically active, engaging in bilateral and multilateral dialogues with international organizations, including the UN, UNESCO, the European Union, NATO, and various countries, to explore collaborative solutions for eliminating the mine problem.
The annual international conference on humanitarian mine action, hosted in Baku, further solidified Azerbaijan’s role in global demining initiatives. The 3rd International Conference, titled “Reducing the Environmental Impact of Mines: Mobilizing Resources for a Safe and Green Future,” was held on May 30-31 in the cities of Zangilan and Baku, co-organized by Azerbaijan and the United Nations.
