Azerbaijan Marks 151st Anniversary of National Press with Commemorative Ceremony
Baku, The Gulf Observer: Azerbaijan on Wednesday marked the 151st anniversary of its national press with a commemorative event in Baku, organised by the Azerbaijan Media Development Agency, highlighting the country’s rich journalistic heritage and ongoing efforts to strengthen media development and press freedom.
Addressing the ceremony, Daghbeyi Ismayilov, Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Azerbaijan State News Agency (AZERTAC) and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Media Development Agency, underscored the significant role played by the Azerbaijani national press over the past 151 years in shaping the country’s socio-political and cultural life.
He said the support and attention extended to journalists and the national press by National Leader Heydar Aliyev were being successfully carried forward under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev.
Ismayilov noted that comprehensive reforms are continuing across Azerbaijan to safeguard freedom of speech, protect press freedom, and promote the development of a modern, professional and dynamic media landscape.
The ceremony was also addressed by Member of Parliament Vugar Rahimzada, Deputy Chairperson of the Azerbaijan Press Council Saadat Mammadova, and Deputy Chairman of the Azerbaijan Television and Radio Broadcasting CJSC Rafig Hashimov, who highlighted the important role of responsible journalism and media institutions in the country’s continued development.
During the event, participants viewed a documentary video showcasing the historical evolution and achievements of Azerbaijan’s national press over the past century and a half.
The commemorative programme concluded with a cultural performance celebrating the legacy and contributions of Azerbaijani journalism.
