Azerbaijan to Develop Full Mining Value Chain from Ore Extraction to Final Products: President Aliyev
Baku, The Gulf Observer: Azerbaijan plans to establish a complete value chain in the mining industry, extending from ore extraction to the production of finished products, President Ilham Aliyev said.
Speaking at a meeting dedicated to the State Program on the Development of the Mining and Metallurgical Industries for 2027–2030, President Aliyev said the initiative would involve ore extraction and the establishment of several processing and production facilities.
The President said that beneficiation, pelletizing and hot briquetted iron plants should be constructed as part of the planned industrial chain.
He also emphasized the importance of efficient transportation of extracted ore, saying that concessions on transportation tariffs should be considered to ensure the economic viability of the projects.
At the same time, Aliyev stressed that environmental considerations must remain an integral part of the development process. He called for comprehensive environmental assessments and strict compliance with all ecological standards.
The development of Azerbaijan’s mining and metallurgical sector is part of a broader government strategy aimed at strengthening industrial production, expanding value-added processing and increasing the contribution of mineral resources to economic development. Azerbaijan’s April 2026 presidential decree on the sector specifically envisaged developing the industry across the value chain from raw materials to finished products.
The State Program covers the period 2027–2030 and is being developed in coordination with Azerbaijan’s broader socio-economic development agenda.
