Azerbaijani Delegation Visits Somalia to Strengthen Bilateral Ties

Mogadishu, The Gulf Observer: Azerbaijan’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Yalchin Rafiyev, led a high-level delegation to the Federal Republic of Somalia to explore avenues for enhancing bilateral cooperation in political, economic, humanitarian, and other critical sectors. The visit also aimed to strengthen relations between the two nations within the framework of international organizations.
During their visit, the Azerbaijani delegation held discussions with key Somali officials, including Deputy Prime Minister Salah Ahmed Jama and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, along with other senior government representatives.
The talks underscored the growing collaboration between the two countries in recent years. Both sides emphasized the vast potential for cooperation in critical sectors such as oil and gas, green energy, agriculture, fisheries, humanitarian aid, and education. They stressed the importance of establishing a legal and contractual framework to formalize these partnerships and further bolster bilateral ties.
One of the highlights of the visit was the first round of political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan and Somalia. The meeting, co-chaired by Deputy Foreign Minister Yalchin Rafiyev and Somalia’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ali Mohamed Omar, focused on strengthening political and economic cooperation. The discussions also touched on enhancing collaboration within key international platforms, including the United Nations (UN), the Non-Aligned Movement, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
The Azerbaijani delegation included representatives from various ministries, including Defense, Defense Industry, Energy, Science and Education, Economy, and Agriculture, as well as the State Agency for Public Service and Social Innovations under the President of Azerbaijan.
This visit marks a significant step toward furthering the long-standing relationship between Azerbaijan and Somalia, with both sides eager to build a more robust partnership in the years ahead.
