China, Brazil Pledge to Strengthen Bilateral Cooperation at Munich Security Conference

Munich, The Gulf Observer: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi reaffirmed China’s commitment to enhancing cooperation with Brazil across various fields during a meeting with Celso Amorim, special advisor to the President of Brazil, on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.

Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, emphasized that Chinese President Xi Jinping’s historic visit to Brazil last year yielded significant agreements with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. These agreements, he noted, laid the groundwork for building a China-Brazil community with a shared future, underscoring the strategic importance of bilateral ties.

He highlighted the synergy between the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and Brazil’s national development strategies, which has provided substantial momentum for China-Brazil cooperation. Wang further stressed that, as major global powers and leading representatives of the Global South, both nations have maintained strategic focus amid global uncertainties and collaborated to promote peace, stability, and development worldwide.

China, he stated, remains dedicated to working with Brazil to implement the consensus reached by both heads of state, foster greater achievements in bilateral cooperation, uphold true multilateralism, and support the core role of the United Nations in global governance. Additionally, he reiterated China’s commitment to safeguarding the legitimate rights and interests of developing countries.

For his part, Amorim acknowledged the profound impact of President Xi’s state visit to Brazil, emphasizing its role in consolidating the longstanding friendship between the two nations. He expressed Brazil’s willingness to expedite the implementation of agreements made during the visit, aiming to establish a more equitable and sustainable China-Brazil community with a shared future while jointly advocating for international fairness and justice.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening communication and coordination, particularly within the BRICS framework and in engagements between China and Latin American nations. They also recognized the efforts of the “Friends of Peace” platform and pledged continued support for a political resolution to the Ukraine crisis.

The meeting underscored the shared vision of China and Brazil in fostering deeper cooperation and advancing mutual interests on the global stage.
