Dr Zaliha Hails Encouraging Early Voter Turnout in Johor State Polls

Larkin, The Gulf Observer: People’s Justice Party (PKR) Vice President Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa has welcomed the encouraging early voter turnout in the Johor state election, expressing optimism that strong public participation—particularly among young and first-time voters—will contribute to the democratic process.

Speaking to reporters after casting her ballot at SMK Bandar Baru Uda in Larkin on Saturday, Dr Zaliha said the atmosphere surrounding polling day had been positive, citing heavy traffic from Kuala Lumpur to Johor Bahru and congestion along the Johor Causeway since Friday evening as signs that many voters had returned to fulfil their civic responsibility.

She noted that the large number of voters arriving at polling stations early in the morning reflected their determination to vote, with many appearing to do so before the possibility of rain later in the day. Describing the turnout as highly encouraging, Dr Zaliha said it demonstrated the growing enthusiasm of the electorate, especially youths and first-time voters, to choose leaders capable of ensuring the state’s continued prosperity.

Dr Zaliha also highlighted PKR’s extensive campaign efforts over the past 14 days to encourage outstation Johoreans to return home and participate in the election. She expressed hope that overall voter turnout would reach 70 percent, underscoring the importance of broad public participation in strengthening the democratic mandate.

More than 2.7 million registered voters are eligible to cast ballots across Johor’s 56 state constituencies, with polling taking place at over 1,000 polling centres. Election authorities expect results to be announced later on Saturday.
