El-Sisi attends funeral of former Prime Minister Sherif Ismail

Cairo, The Gulf Observer: Egyptian President Abdel Fatah el-Sisi attended Sunday the funeral of Former Prime Minister Sherif Ismail at the Field Marshal Mohamed Tantawy Mosque in New Cairo.

He extended his condolences to the family, stressing that Ismail, who held office between 2015 and 2018, had deployed tremendous efforts in a very intricate phase in the history of Egypt.

The late prime minister passed away on Saturday at the age of 67 after struggling with illness for years.

Ismail was born on July 6, 1955, and earned a bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering in 1978 from Ain Shams University. He had begun his career at Mobil’s department of exploration in the same year before moving to ENPPI in 1979.

The late prime minister remained in the same company for 21 years until he became the General Manager of Technical Affairs and board member. In 2000, he was appointed the deputy petroleum minister for operations, and in 2005, he assumed the chairmanship of EGAS.

Two years later, Ismail became chairman of South Valley Egyptian Petroleum Holding Company. In 2013, he was appointed Minister of Petroleum, and afterwards, Prime Minister between September 19, 2015 and June 5, 2018. Since then, he was the president’s assistant for national projects.
