Erdogan Urges EU to Support Türkiye’s “Constructive Stance” and Reassess Strategic Outlook

Ankara, The Gulf Observer: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Monday called on the European Union to avoid actions and rhetoric that, in his view, could undermine Ankara’s “constructive stance,” urging Brussels instead to acknowledge and appreciate Türkiye’s position.
In an address to the nation following a Cabinet meeting, Erdogan stated that “Türkiye is no longer the old Türkiye, nor is the world still confined to the sphere of influence of Western states.”
He further emphasized that the European Union should recognize Türkiye’s role, arguing that the bloc cannot achieve the status of a global actor or a center of attraction without Türkiye as a full member.
Erdogan also criticized what he described as the EU’s “strategic myopia” toward Türkiye, stating that this perspective “unfortunately persists, quite visibly,” across various EU institutions.
According to the Turkish president, the core issue is not Türkiye’s position, but rather how Brussels defines its own future. He added that Europe, in his view, needs Türkiye more than Türkiye needs Europe.
