Sialkot Chamber

Sialkot, The Gulf Observer: Dr. Oumer Hussien Oba, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Ethiopia, paid an official visit to the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) on Tuesday to discuss avenues for enhancing bilateral trade and investment cooperation between Ethiopia and Pakistan.

Upon his arrival, the ambassador was warmly received by Murad Arshad along with members of the chamber’s executive committee.

Addressing the business community, Ambassador Dr. Oumer Hussien Oba lauded Sialkot’s strong industrial base and underscored the immense potential for expanding economic collaboration between the two countries.

He highlighted Ethiopia’s competitive advantages for foreign investors, particularly Pakistani businesses, citing the country’s large population, skilled labor force, affordable green energy resources, and strategic regional connectivity.

The ambassador said Ethiopia’s investor-friendly environment was further strengthened through incentives and tax exemptions introduced under the Homegrown Economic Reforms, which, he noted, had helped address macroeconomic challenges while promoting productivity and employment generation.

Encouraging Pakistani entrepreneurs to explore opportunities in Ethiopia, he identified agriculture, agro-processing, manufacturing, mining, tourism, and information and communication technology (ICT) as promising sectors for investment and cooperation.

Speaking on the occasion, Syed Ahtesham Mazhar thanked the ambassador for his visit and expressed confidence that Sialkot’s industrial expertise would contribute significantly to enhancing business-to-business relations between Pakistan and Ethiopia.

The session concluded with an interactive question-and-answer segment focusing on measures to further deepen bilateral economic engagement between the two friendly countries.
