Extraordinary OIC Summit important to stop Israel's attack on Palestine: Jokowi

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) stated that the Extraordinary Islamic Summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, is important as an additional effort to stop Israel’s attack on Palestine.

At the summit, leaders of OIC countries will discuss the current situation in the Gaza Strip, which has been the center of conflict between Israel and the Palestinian freedom fighter group, Hamas, since October 7, 2023.

“At the summit, I will call for an immediate ceasefire and a bigger space for humanitarian assistance,” Widodo remarked before leaving for Riyadh from Juanda International Airport in Sidoarjo, East Java, on Friday.

From Riyadh, the president is scheduled to continue his visit to Washington D.C. on November 12 to meet US President Joe Biden on the following day.

According to Jokowi, as the president is widely known, the bilateral meeting with Biden was a good opportunity to echo Indonesia’s firm position regarding Gaza.

“This visit is a good opportunity to directly convey the results of the OIC Summit in Riyadh, which reflects the solidarity of OIC countries to defend justice and humanity,” Jokowi remarked.

From Washington D.C., Jokowi and his entourage will head to San Francisco to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit.

Sustainable development and inclusive development are two priority issues that Indonesia will voice in the economic organization consisting of 21 member countries in the Asia-Pacific region.

Jokowi is also scheduled to conduct several bilateral meetings and meetings with business owners in San Francisco during the APEC Summit that will take place on November 15-17, 2023.

“God willing, we will leave San Francisco on November 17 after the summit is finished and return to Indonesia,” he revealed.
