Gabala International Music Festival Showcases Iconic Film Scores and Emerging Azerbaijani Talent

Gabala, The Gulf Observer: The 15th Gabala International Music Festival delighted audiences with a special concert featuring soundtracks from acclaimed Azerbaijani and international cinematic masterpieces, presented for the first time in the festival’s history.

Organized by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation in partnership with the Ministry of Culture, the Baku Academy of Music named after Uzeyir Hajibeyli, and “Gilan,” the performance was held under the artistic direction and baton of conductor Mustafa Mehmandarov.

The concert featured the “Scorrendo” Orchestra alongside distinguished soloists, violinist Said Mammadov and soprano Natella Guliyeva, who delivered a diverse program celebrating the rich musical heritage of cinema.

The repertoire included renowned Azerbaijani film compositions by Tofig Guliyev (Meeting), Arif Melikov (The Last Pass), Khayyam Mirzazade (I Want Seven Sons), and Fikret Amirov (Great Support). The orchestra also performed internationally celebrated scores by legendary composers John Williams, Hans Zimmer, Ennio Morricone, Ramin Djawadi, Nino Rota, and Bill Conti, featuring themes from iconic films such as Star Wars, Harry Potter, Interstellar, Mission: Impossible, Indiana Jones, The Professional, The Matrix, Pirates of the Caribbean, The Godfather, and Rocky.

Speaking to the media, violinist Said Mammadov praised the Azerbaijani government’s continued support for nurturing young artistic talent, noting that participation in the internationally recognized festival provides valuable opportunities for the professional growth of emerging musicians.

Soprano Natella Guliyeva, a fourth-year student at the Baku Academy of Music and one of the festival’s youngest performers, described her debut at the event as a significant milestone. She said the opportunity reflects strong institutional confidence in young artists and highlights Azerbaijan’s commitment to fostering the next generation of cultural ambassadors.

Now in its 15th edition, the Gabala International Music Festival continues to strengthen its reputation as one of the region’s premier cultural events, attracting large local and international audiences to its open-air amphitheater and concert venues while reinforcing Gabala’s status as a vibrant center for intercultural dialogue and artistic exchange.
