Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty, visited the construction site of a new mosque in Arkadag on Wednesday. The mosque, designed to accommodate 30,000 worshippers, is a significant project aimed at enhancing the spiritual and cultural infrastructure of the region, as reported by Turkmenistan’s official media.
The mosque’s design includes a dedicated prayer area for women, which will have a capacity of 5,000 people. The structure is being built to reflect both Turkmenistan’s national architectural traditions and modern building standards. The interior will feature Quranic verses inscribed in traditional calligraphy, adding a cultural and spiritual dimension to the mosque’s design.
During the visit, Berdimuhamedov also reviewed the plans for the second phase of Arkadag’s development. This phase will include the construction of new social and industrial facilities, alongside improvements to the city’s streets and avenues. Notably, special attention will be given to the Ahalteke atlary avenue, which is set to be adorned with sculptures of the celebrated Ahal-Teke horses, a symbol of Turkmen pride and heritage.
The second phase of Arkadag’s development involves over 50 Turkmen companies and international partners. Key aspects of this phase include the creation of a medical cluster and the incorporation of eco-friendly technologies, such as water purification systems and solar energy solutions. Efforts are being made to attract foreign investments and grants to support these sustainable initiatives.
Founded on June 29, 2023, Arkadag has quickly become Turkmenistan’s first “smart city.” The city has garnered international recognition for its innovative urban planning, ecological solutions, and use of digital technologies. Arkadag exemplifies the principles of sustainable development by blending modern engineering solutions with the concept of a “green” city, earning multiple prestigious international awards for its accomplishments.
