“Her Art in Action 2025”: Celebrating Women’s Creative Expression

Baku, The Gulf Observer: The Union of Artists of Azerbaijan, in collaboration with the VarYox culture and art platform, has launched the 2025 edition of “Her Art in Action”, an annual festival dedicated to showcasing female artistic practices.
This year’s edition, titled “Free to Dream”, runs from March 9 to April 6, focusing on how women imagine, visualize, and express their dreams, both personal and collective. The festival’s highlights include an exhibition and a dynamic public program aimed at fostering dialogue, reflection, and artistic exploration.
The opening event was attended by Leyla Aliyeva, Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and founder of IDEA Public Union, alongside Arzu Aliyeva, President of the Baku Media Center. They viewed the “Free to Dream” exhibition, which explores the interplay between imagination and reality through diverse art forms.
Curated by Lesley Gray and Ayna Moazzen, the exhibition features works by 23 Azerbaijani artists, selected through an open call, along with three international artists and an international curator. The pieces include paintings, video works, performances, and installations, reflecting various artistic approaches and perspectives.
In addition to the exhibition, the festival includes workshops, portfolio reviews, and discussions led by visiting artists and curators, providing emerging and mid-career artists with opportunities for artistic development and exchange. These activities foster creative dialogue and build connections between local and international art communities.
Supported by the Union of Artists of Azerbaijan, Pasha Travel, Nar, and the Embassy of the Netherlands, “Her Art in Action” remains a vital platform for amplifying women’s voices in the arts, promoting innovation and collaboration in the creative community.
