Hikmet Hajiyev: Azerbaijan’s Contribution to Europe’s Energy Security Key to EU Partnership

Baku, The Gulf Observer: Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration, held a meeting on October 1 with a delegation of the EU Council Working Party on Eastern Europe and Central Asia (COEST), comprising representatives from more than 20 European countries.

Following the meeting, Hajiyev shared details of the discussions on his X account, highlighting the strategic importance of the partnership between Azerbaijan and the European Union.

He said EU-Azerbaijan relations were developing on the basis of mutual respect, equality and shared interests, while noting that political dialogue had intensified through recent high-level contacts and practical cooperation was gaining momentum.

Hajiyev highlighted Azerbaijan’s contribution to Europe’s energy security and its strategic role in regional connectivity, particularly through the Middle Corridor, as important elements of the bilateral partnership.

He also pointed to expanding cooperation in clean energy, digital transformation, innovation and investment.

According to Hajiyev, Azerbaijan and the EU have broadened their security dialogue this year into a Political and Security Dialogue. He added that the two sides were working toward a new comprehensive bilateral agreement and renewed Partnership Priorities.

The Azerbaijani presidential aide said the expanding bilateral agenda created an opportunity to translate shared interests into concrete areas of cooperation and practical outcomes.

The meeting underscored the ongoing engagement between Azerbaijan and the European Union on political, economic, energy, connectivity, security and technological cooperation.
