In 2024, Khiva, the tourism capital of the Islamic world, is on the threshold of new changes
At the 11th session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation held in Baku in June 2022, Khiva was declared the “Tourism Capital of the Islamic World” in 2024.
The candidate of the city of Khiva was declared the winner among the cities of Abu Dhabi in the UAE, Sanliurfa in Turkey, Lagos in Nigeria, and Dushanbe in Tajikistan.
Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) – President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev recognized the consistent reforms in the field of tourism, simplification of the visa regime, preservation of cultural heritage, improvement of historical cities.
As part of the “Tourism Capital of the Islamic World” year, a high-level meeting of tourism ministers and heads of tourism administrations of 57 OIC member states will be held in Khiva, Khorezm region.
At the same time, scientific-practical conferences, photo exhibitions, and art exhibitions are organized that reveal the potential of the Islamic world and pilgrimage tourism. On the basis of the “Silk Road” international tourism university, attention will be paid to the expansion of opportunities in the field of education with the participation of scientists and researchers from the OIC countries.
In October of this year, relevant negotiations were conducted with the management of foreign media through our embassies in OIC member states and an agreement was reached, and an info-tour program was developed.
According to the program, on October 20-24 of this year, preparation of materials on the historical cities of Uzbekistan (Tashkent, Samarkand, Bukhara, Khiva), national handicrafts, gastronomy and preparation processes for the international event “Khiva – the tourism capital of the Islamic world in 2024” and We would like to inform you that an info tour was organized for 24 foreign media representatives in order to increase the number of tourists visiting our country.
This recognition of the city of Khiva in the international community makes it possible to develop internal and external tourism, build new infrastructure facilities, museums and expositions, and increase the volume of export of tourist services.
Undoubtedly, year-round cultural events, media tours organized for foreign and local journalists serve to promote not only the city, but also the entire country on a global scale.
The world community will have the opportunity to get acquainted with the history, nature, lifestyle and culture of our people, customs and traditions.
