Indonesia and France Sign 27 MoUs Worth US$11 Billion

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: Indonesia and France have signed 27 memoranda of understanding (MoUs) worth US$11 billion, reinforcing the two nations’ commitment to enhancing bilateral relations across various sectors. The agreements were finalized during the official visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to Jakarta.
Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, announced the signing of the MoUs, stating that 16 agreements were made in the morning, witnessed by President Macron and Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto. The remaining 11 MoUs were signed later in the day at the Indonesia-France Business Forum, which saw participation from 368 delegates from both nations.
Minister Hartarto emphasized that these agreements are a reflection of the shared aspirations between the two countries to strengthen their longstanding partnership, which spans 75 years. The MoUs cover a broad spectrum of cooperation, including government-to-government (G2G), business-to-business (B2B), and people-to-people engagements.
“This will further strengthen the longstanding relationship between Indonesia and France,” Hartarto stated. “We share many philosophical perspectives and approaches to global geopolitical and economic challenges, which align our vision for the future.”
Hartarto also underscored the importance of ensuring that the agreements lead to tangible outcomes and called on participants of the 2025 Indonesia-France Business Forum to drive trade and investment opportunities between the two nations. He highlighted the commitment to unlocking new avenues for economic collaboration and mutual benefit.
The MoUs were part of a broader agenda aimed at reinforcing ties in key sectors such as defense, trade, and education. As part of their bilateral discussions, President Macron invited Minister Prabowo to Paris for Bastille Day, further cementing the partnership between the two countries.
President Macron’s visit to Jakarta and Magelang, which runs from May 27 to 29, is part of his tour of the Indo-Pacific region, with upcoming visits to Vietnam and Singapore. Earlier in the day, President Prabowo welcomed President Macron at Merdeka Palace, where they agreed to cooperate in 21 areas, including defense and a free meals program for schoolchildren.
This visit marks a significant milestone in the ongoing diplomatic and economic relations between Indonesia and France, with both nations committed to deepening their cooperation in the years to come.
