Indonesia and UAE Strengthen Investment Cooperation in Digital Economy, Food, and Infrastructure

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening investment cooperation in key sectors, including the digital economy, food, and infrastructure.
During the 2025 World Governments Summit in Dubai, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto met with UAE Minister of Investment Mohamed Hassan Alsuwaidi on Wednesday, February 12. The meeting followed up on President Prabowo Subianto’s visit to the UAE on November 23, 2024.
One of the key agreements reached was the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on gas cooperation with Mubadala Energy in the Andaman Sea. Additionally, both countries have begun exploring potential investments from the UAE into Indonesia’s Special Economic Zones (SEZs) to develop a robust data center ecosystem and enhance infrastructure through the National Strategic Project (PSN).
“The UAE will be crucial in helping to create a resilient and reliable data center ecosystem in Indonesia by investing in several SEZs, such as the Nongsa Digital Park (NDP) SEZ in Batam,” Hartarto stated on Thursday.
The Indonesian government aims to establish a data center in the NDP SEZ, with an investment target of 400 Megawatts (MW), equivalent to USD 4 billion. The NDP SEZ ecosystem is also set to accommodate various science and technology projects, including semiconductor development and artificial intelligence (AI) advancements.
In addition to investments in the technology sector, discussions between Hartarto and Alsuwaidi also covered airport and port development, as well as a plan to construct a Giant Sea Wall along Java Island’s northern coast.
“The UAE’s commitment to Indonesia’s infrastructure development will have a direct impact on the wider community. We highly appreciate the UAE’s support in continuing several infrastructure projects within the PSN and discussing the Giant Sea Wall construction plan,” Hartarto remarked.
The ongoing investment cooperation between Indonesia and the UAE is expected to further enhance economic growth and technological innovation while strengthening bilateral ties between the two nations.
