Uzbekistan Delegation Visits Türkiye for Urban Planning Exchange and Strengthening Bilateral Ties

Istanbul, The Gulf Observer: An official delegation from Uzbekistan is currently visiting Türkiye as part of the internship program for hokims, aimed at exchanging experiences and studying best practices in urban planning and management. The delegation is led by Bobur Bekmurodov, Chairman of the Yuksalish Movement and a member of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan.

As part of the program, the delegation has already held meetings in the cities of Konya and Selçuklu, paving the way for long-term partnerships and further strengthening the friendly relations between Uzbekistan and Türkiye. A key highlight of the visit was the meeting between the Hokim of Navoi, Dilmurod Ergashev, and the Mayor of Zeytinburnu, Ömer Arısoy. During this meeting, a cooperation protocol was signed, officially granting Navoi (Uzbekistan) and Zeytinburnu (Istanbul, Türkiye) the status of sister cities.

Zeytinburnu, due to its strategic location, serves as a significant economic and trade hub, hosting numerous factories, markets, and shopping centers. Apart from its prominent textile industry, the district plays a crucial role in logistics and transportation.

The signed bilateral document encompasses a wide range of cooperation areas, including economic collaboration, development in education, healthcare, youth policy, sports, tourism, and cultural heritage preservation. Furthermore, it outlines joint initiatives in environmental protection, energy, information technology, and transportation. Both parties have agreed to facilitate expert exchanges and provide support to business communities and investors. A special focus will also be placed on assisting socially vulnerable groups, including children, individuals with disabilities, and the elderly.

During the visit, the Uzbek delegation explored modern urban planning projects in Zeytinburnu, emphasizing innovative ecological solutions and infrastructure improvements aimed at enhancing the urban environment.

Notably, on February 10, as part of the Uzbekistan delegation’s visit to Türkiye, another cooperation protocol was signed, establishing Samarkand and Konya as sister cities. This milestone reflects the growing strategic partnership between the two nations and their commitment to fostering sustainable development and cultural exchange.
