Indonesian President Commends Nahdlatul Ulama’s Contributions to National Unity
Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: In a speech delivered during the commemoration of the 101st anniversary of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), Indonesian President Joko Widodo expressed appreciation for the significant contributions made by the largest Islamic organization in the country towards national unity and integrity.
President Jokowi acknowledged NU’s role in safeguarding the republic, Pancasila, and promoting unity in diversity. He extended his congratulations to NU on reaching its 101st anniversary and thanked the organization for its commitment to defending Indonesia’s integrity.
Highlighting the international impact of Indonesia’s approach to tolerance and religious moderation, the President credited NU’s ulemas and santris (Islamic boarding school students) for their dedication and hard work.
The commemoration theme, “Stepping Up Performance, Leading Indonesia Into Glory,” emphasizes the importance of enhancing NU’s organizational performance. Deputy Chairman of NU Central Executive Board, Amin Said Husni, explained that the theme reflects NU’s commitment to solidify its organization and networks to contribute to the nation’s vision of achieving Golden Indonesia 2045.
The event, attended by high-ranking officials, including the Commander of the National Armed Forces and the Chief of the National Police, aimed to celebrate NU’s history while focusing on its future role in shaping Indonesia’s destiny.
