Iran Extends Condolences to China Following Tibet Earthquake
Tehran, The Gulf Observer: Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei has expressed heartfelt condolences to China in the wake of a devastating earthquake that struck the Tibet region, causing significant loss of life and injuries.
In a statement on Tuesday, Baghaei extended his sympathies to the families of the victims, the Chinese government, and the people of China. He also wished a swift recovery for those injured in the disaster.
The earthquake, with a magnitude of 7.1 according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS) and 6.8 as recorded by the China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC), struck the Shigatse region in Tibet. The epicenter was located in Dingri County, near Mount Everest, which is home to approximately 62,000 residents.
The disaster has claimed at least 126 lives and left more than 100 injured, with tremors felt in neighboring countries, including Nepal, Bhutan, and parts of northern India.
Rescue operations are underway as authorities work to assess the full extent of the damage and provide relief to affected communities.
