Jordan Condemns Iranian Attack on UAE-Flagged Tanker in Strait of Hormuz
Amman, The Gulf Observer: Jordan has strongly condemned an Iranian attack on a UAE-flagged tanker operated by the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) while the vessel was transiting the Strait of Hormuz, describing the incident as a violation of international law and a serious threat to maritime security and freedom of navigation.
In a statement issued Tuesday, Jordan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates expressed the Kingdom’s firm rejection and condemnation of the attack and reaffirmed its full solidarity with the United Arab Emirates.
The ministry reiterated Jordan’s support for the UAE and its right to take all measures it deems necessary to protect its security, stability and national assets.
The UAE said on Saturday that Iran had targeted an ADNOC tanker while it was passing through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz. The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned what it described as a “hostile Iranian attack” involving a missile strike on an ADNOC tanker. The attack caused no casualties.
The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) later reported that a vessel had been struck by a projectile off the coast of Oman in the Strait of Hormuz. The incident sparked a fire, which was subsequently extinguished, with no casualties reported.
ADNOC said on Friday that 15 of its vessels had come under attack in the Strait of Hormuz since the beginning of the conflict, including three vessels during the same week.
Jordan’s condemnation comes amid heightened regional tensions and growing concerns over the safety of commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global maritime route for energy supplies.
