Kazakh Senate Speaker Meets with Chinese Officials to Strengthen Bilateral Cooperation
Beijing, The Gulf Observer: Kazakh Senate Speaker Maulen Ashimbayev arrived in China for an official visit, where he held key meetings with senior Chinese officials. On the agenda was enhancing cooperation between Kazakhstan’s Senate and China’s National People’s Congress (NPC), with a particular focus on joint investment projects across various sectors including industry, energy, transport, green energy, and agriculture.
During his meeting with Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the NPC, Ashimbayev highlighted the growing collaboration between Kazakhstan and China, specifically in the development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route. He emphasized that this route is critical for ensuring safe and efficient trade between Asia and Europe. Ashimbayev also noted the ongoing construction of the Ayagoz-Tacheng railway line, a vital link between Kazakhstan and China, and plans to establish a third railway border checkpoint to further enhance connectivity.
Zhao Leji expressed China’s readiness to support the development of initiatives set by the two countries’ leaderships and lauded the potential for expanding joint projects under the Belt and Road initiative.
Earlier, Ashimbayev had also discussed the role of parliamentary diplomacy in fostering cooperation among Central Asian countries during the Astana Think Tank Forum, underscoring its importance as a catalyst for regional development.
