Makkah Defence Agreement Entirely Defensive, Aimed at Strengthening Regional Peace: Ishaq Dar
Islamabad, The Gulf Observer: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has said that the Makkah Defence Agreement is entirely defensive in nature and is not aimed at taking action against any country, stressing that its objective is to strengthen peace and stability in the region.
In an interview with Geo News, Dar said Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye signed the defence agreement on August 7, describing it as a reflection of the brotherly relations among the three countries and the outcome of years of consultation and coordination.
He said the agreement seeks to strengthen cooperation among the three countries in addressing challenges to peace and security. The accord, he added, would contribute to promoting peace, stability and prosperity in the region.
Dar noted that under the agreement, an attack on any one of the three countries would be regarded as an attack on all three. He said the principle was consistent with Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, which recognizes the inherent right of individual and collective self-defence.
The Deputy Prime Minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to sustainable peace and cooperation in the region, saying Islamabad remained committed to the peaceful resolution of disputes and to ensuring a secure future for the people.
The Makkah agreement, he emphasized, was intended to enhance collective security cooperation while contributing to regional peace and stability rather than targeting any particular country.
