Malaysia Affirms Strong Economic Ties with UAE, Anticipates CEPA Finalization by June

Abu Dhabi, The Gulf Observer: Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, Malaysia’s Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry (MITI), has underscored the robust economic relations between the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Malaysia. He confirmed that the two nations are on the verge of finalizing their Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), with plans for the signing ceremony slated to take place by the end of June this year.

Speaking to the Emirates News Agency (WAM) on the sidelines of the 13th Ministerial Conference (MC13) of the World Trade Organization (WTO) in Abu Dhabi, Minister Tengku Zafrul highlighted the frequency of his visits to the UAE, emphasizing the strategic importance of the bilateral relationship. He also noted the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) during this period, reflecting the commitment to advance cooperation across various sectors.

In January, an MoU was signed to establish a framework for investment cooperation specifically in the digital infrastructure sector. The Minister highlighted the significance of this agreement, in addition to other MoUs inked by Malaysian companies with Masdar during COP28 in Dubai in December.

Minister Tengku Zafrul expressed the importance of the MC13 as a crucial global event, serving as a vital platform for communication, especially in the face of challenges confronting international trade. The discussions and engagements at MC13 are expected to further enhance cooperation and understanding among nations, contributing to the global trade landscape.
