Ma’ruf Amin Calls for Innovative Measures to Strengthen Cybersecurity
Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: Vice President Ma’ruf Amin has urged the National Police (Polri) and relevant stakeholders to adopt innovative strategies to counter potential cyberattacks. Speaking virtually at a seminar organized for the student participants of Polri’s Staff and Commander Academy (Sespimti) on Thursday, the Vice President emphasized the critical need for proactive and comprehensive measures to safeguard the nation’s cybersecurity.
“It is important to take innovative and comprehensive measures that can be some kind of ‘vaccine’ against cyberattacks. We cannot afford to let bureaucratic matters hinder our devotion to this unitary republic,” Vice President Amin stated during his address.
The Vice President highlighted the importance of prompt and effective action by police officers in response to public reports, stressing the need for continuous training and collaboration with relevant parties. “It is vital that the Polri train its personnel stationed both at the headquarters and in regions by involving relevant parties,” he remarked.
Amin also reminded the police of their essential role as guardians of public order and security, encouraging them to embrace public criticism and use it as a catalyst for improvement. “Listen to criticism voiced by the public and respond to it by taking concrete actions. It should be noted that people’s aspirations should be seen as a push for Polri to continue improving its services,” he emphasized.
Concluding his speech, the Vice President expressed hope that the seminar would result in the development of innovative solutions to enhance Indonesia’s cyber resilience.
Meanwhile, Inspector General Chryshnanda Dwilaksana, Head of Polri’s Sespimti, underscored the necessity of collaboration among various institutions to tackle the emerging challenges posed by digitalization. He pointed out that some Indonesians continue to use foreign digital applications that could jeopardize national cybersecurity, stressing the need for Indonesia to cultivate more talent with a deep understanding of the Internet of Things.
The seminar marks a significant step towards bolstering Indonesia’s defenses against cyber threats, with leaders urging for greater innovation, cooperation, and a proactive approach to maintaining national security in the digital era.
