Oman chairs GCC-British FMs meeting in New York

New York, The Gulf Observer: The Sultanate of Oman on Tuesday chaired a joint ministerial meeting between the GCC foreign ministers and James Cleverly, British Foreign Secretary. The meeting was held within the context of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

At the meeting, Oman was represented by Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Hamad Al Busaidi, Chairman of the current session of the Gulf Ministerial Council. The meeting was attended by the GCC Secretary General.

The meeting reviewed relations between GCC states and the United Kingdom and explored ways of expanding areas of bilateral cooperation. It laid emphasis on consolidating ties in the sectors of trade, investment, renewable energy, education and the transfer of sciences and knowledge.

The ministers commended the progress made in advancing relations and underscored the need to expand and diversify common areas of action to realize their shared interests.

The two sides also exchanged views on a number of current international and regional issues. They underlined the significance of promoting dialogue and respecting the sovereignty of the international law and the UN Charter in a manner that consolidates world peace and stability.
