Oman Space Conference 2026 Highlights National Priorities for Space Sector Development

Muscat, The Gulf Observer: The Oman Space Conference 2026 was held in Muscat on Sunday with the participation of 70 representatives from government departments, institutions, industry and academia involved in the country’s space sector.
The conference was organised by “Space Tech in Gulf” in partnership with the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, focusing on key priorities and future directions for the development of Oman’s space sector.
The discussions covered practical applications of space technologies, sectoral priorities, and opportunities to strengthen cooperation and partnerships among relevant stakeholders.
Particular attention was given to Oman’s national space policy, implementation schedule and executive programme, as well as their role in advancing the objectives of Oman Vision 2040.
Participants also examined ways to utilise Earth observation technologies and space data to enhance government services and improve operational efficiency in a range of sectors, including agriculture, the environment and marine resources.
The conference highlighted the importance of developing national expertise, empowering Omani companies operating in the space sector and strengthening partnerships among the public sector, private sector and academic institutions, with the objective of establishing an integrated national space system.
Discussions further addressed mechanisms for localising space technologies and services, consolidating national capabilities, safeguarding strategic interests and national security, and enhancing international cooperation in the space sector.
The participants also reviewed promising investment opportunities and ways to develop Oman’s space policies in line with emerging global trends and technological developments.
The conference assumes significance amid growing international interest in the space sector and its increasing contribution to economic and knowledge-based development. It also underscored the importance of making effective use of space technologies and data to develop innovative solutions to national development challenges and strengthen Oman’s readiness to benefit from the expanding global space economy.
