Pakistan-Belarus Business Forum Highlights Opportunities for Enhanced Trade and Investment

Islamabad, The Gulf Observer: Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan emphasized the untapped potential for economic collaboration between Pakistan and Belarus at the Pakistan-Belarus Business Forum held on Monday. He highlighted that the current trade volume does not align with the economic capabilities of the two countries, underscoring the need for diversification and expansion in bilateral trade.

The forum, co-chaired by Jam Kamal Khan and Belarusian Minister for Energy Aleksei Kushnarenko, was attended by a large delegation of business leaders and government officials from both countries. The event marked an important milestone in fostering deeper economic ties and exploring avenues for cooperation.

The Commerce Minister highlighted key sectors open for investment, including energy, infrastructure, telecommunications, manufacturing, agriculture, and ICT, encouraging Belarusian businesses to capitalize on these opportunities. He announced that eight B2B Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and contracts would be signed during the forum, reflecting growing complementarities in bilateral trade and paving the way for future collaborations.

“Pakistan and Belarus have significant potential to increase trade, particularly in food, pharmaceuticals, textiles, leather, logistics, and energy,” said Jam Kamal Khan. He emphasized the importance of addressing tariff and non-tariff barriers, rationalizing import requirements, and offering meaningful market access to unlock opportunities.

The Minister also noted that Pakistan’s exports to Belarus, currently dominated by surgical instruments, could expand to include meat, dairy, agricultural products, and more through bilateral trade cooperation. He highlighted Belarusian tractors as a well-recognized and trusted brand in Pakistan, symbolizing the strength of the two countries’ partnership.

Belarusian Minister for Energy Aleksei Kushnarenko echoed these sentiments, stating that Belarusian agricultural machinery, petrochemicals, and dairy products have a growing demand in Pakistan, while Pakistani light industrial goods and food products are increasingly sought after in Belarus.

During the forum, a roadmap for comprehensive cooperation for 2025-2027 was unveiled, detailing timelines and responsibilities for various ministries and agencies to ensure the achievement of key targets. Both countries also acknowledged their shared commitment to advancing regional trade and connectivity, particularly through platforms like the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

The forum concluded with optimism about future collaborations in trade, industrial production, agriculture, healthcare, and education. Jam Kamal Khan expressed gratitude to the Belarusian delegation and underscored the importance of seizing this opportunity to build a brighter economic future together.

This forum builds upon the strong diplomatic ties between Pakistan and Belarus and reflects their shared vision of fostering bilateral and regional economic growth.
