PM Shehbaz Reaffirms Pakistan’s Commitment to Peace, Stability and Social Harmony

Islamabad, The Gulf Observer: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to peaceful coexistence, global stability and security, equal opportunities for development and prosperity, and justice and fairness as the international community observes the International Day of Peace.

In his message on the occasion, the Prime Minister said Pakistan takes pride in its constructive role in promoting regional and international peace and has made consistent efforts toward conflict resolution, de-escalation of tensions and the advancement of global peace.

“Pakistan has also consistently served as a vanguard in United Nations peacekeeping missions, a contribution that remains a source of immense national pride,” he said.

Referring to this year’s theme, “Invest in Peace, For Everyone, Everywhere, Every Day,” the Prime Minister said peace should not be understood merely as the absence of armed conflict. Its true benefits, he added, are reflected in the economic and social well-being of people, protection of fundamental rights, dignity and respect, equal opportunities and inclusion.

Prime Minister Shehbaz stressed that an equitable and non-discriminatory social order, free from distinctions based on colour or race, is essential for sustainable peace. He said collective efforts were required to address hatred, violence, prejudice and other negative tendencies at both individual and societal levels.

He observed that Islamic teachings and the Constitution of Pakistan provide a strong foundation for social peace by safeguarding human dignity and fundamental rights.

The Prime Minister said the government’s policies were focused on ensuring effective protection of the equal rights and responsibilities of all citizens, particularly women, children, minorities, persons with disabilities and other vulnerable and disadvantaged segments of society.

He highlighted the National Action Plan for Human Rights 2026, saying it provides a comprehensive framework for protecting human rights and promoting social harmony. The plan includes measures to promote interfaith harmony and religious tolerance, prevent hate speech and discriminatory practices, strengthen protection for minorities and vulnerable groups, improve access to justice and enhance institutional accountability.

Prime Minister Shehbaz further emphasised the importance of education in developing a culture of peace, saying that enduring peace depends on collective social consciousness and individual understanding.

“Promoting civic responsibility, tolerance, and respect for diversity in our universities is vital to fostering social peace,” he said, adding that the inclusion of human rights and peace education under the National Action Plan reflected the government’s commitment to nurturing a culture of respect, empathy and peaceful coexistence among future generations.

He also underscored the importance of protecting victims of human rights violations and ensuring timely and effective institutional responses to strengthen citizens’ trust in the state.

The Prime Minister called upon citizens to contribute to countering hatred, intolerance and discrimination while promoting empathy, dialogue and respect for others.

“Strengthening a culture of peace is a shared responsibility of government institutions, civil society, religious leaders, teachers, the media, communities, and families alike,” he said.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif concluded his message by praying to Allah Almighty for lasting peace and prosperity in Pakistan and around the world.
