PM Shehbaz, UN Chief Discuss Regional and Global Challenges
New York, The Gulf Observer: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Friday met United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York and discussed major regional and global challenges.
During the wide-ranging meeting, the prime minister emphasized Pakistan’s belief in dialogue and diplomacy as the most effective means of resolving conflicts, particularly those affecting the Middle East.
Prime Minister Shehbaz reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and the establishment of a Palestinian state.
He also conveyed Pakistan’s concerns over terrorism emanating from Afghan territory and the growing trend of Islamophobia around the world.
The prime minister expressed appreciation to Secretary-General Guterres for acknowledging Pakistan’s continued contributions to international peace and security, including the sacrifices rendered by the country in its fight against terrorism.
The meeting was held as world leaders gathered in New York for the high-level proceedings of the 81st UN General Assembly.
Secretary-General Guterres is expected to visit Pakistan next month, according to the report.
