Prabowo Subianto Hopes to Meet Megawati Soekarnoputri Before Inauguration

Jakarta, Indonesia — President-elect Prabowo Subianto has expressed his hope that a planned meeting with the fifth President of Indonesia and Chairperson of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), Megawati Soekarnoputri, will take place before his official inauguration on October 20, 2024.

“Hopefully, the meeting will happen before the inauguration,” Prabowo remarked after attending the inauguration of newly elected legislators of the House of Representatives (DPR) and senators of the Regional Representatives Council (DPD) at the parliament complex in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Prabowo, who will soon assume the presidency, responded positively to the prospect of the meeting, expressing his intention with the phrase, “Insya Allah, Insya Allah” (God willing).

Deputy Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Prabowo’s Gerindra Party, Hashim Djojohadikusumo, revealed that Prabowo had been waiting two years to meet with Megawati.

Earlier, on September 26, Puan Maharani, Chair of the PDI-P’s Central Board, confirmed that Megawati would meet with Prabowo at an “interesting place,” emphasizing that the venue itself was not the priority, but the importance of the meeting between the two prominent figures. She noted that both leaders were committed to meeting but were occupied with busy schedules.

“The place is just a place, for sure. What matters most is the meeting,” Maharani stated, adding that the encounter would happen at the right time when both schedules align.

Meanwhile, political analyst Hendri Satrio remarked that the long-anticipated meeting between Prabowo and Megawati could bring hope for Indonesia, stating, “If this meeting between Megawati and Prabowo takes place, it will be extraordinary. As winners of the Presidential and Legislative elections, they could bring positive change and improvement to Indonesia.”

The meeting between the two influential leaders is seen as a potential milestone in Indonesia’s political landscape, fostering collaboration that could positively impact the nation.
