President Ilham Aliyev Inaugurates Reconstructed Islam Safarli Street in Baku

Baku, The Gulf Observer: President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, along with First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva and family members, attended the opening of the newly reconstructed Islam Safarli Street in Baku on May 1, marking a significant step in the capital’s ongoing urban modernization efforts.
Eldar Azizov briefed the President and the First Lady on the comprehensive redevelopment project, which spans the Sabail and Yasamal districts of the city.
The reconstruction covered the area from Azerbaijan Avenue, including part of Nigar Rafibayli Street, extending along Islam Safarli Street to Mirzaagha Aliyev Street. The fully renovated zone now provides seamless pedestrian access to Central Park, enhancing urban mobility and connectivity.
Extensive landscaping works were carried out across eight intersecting streets, as well as on sections leading to Tabriz Khalilbeyli and Mirza Ibrahimov streets, with a total renovation length of 1,350 meters. Infrastructure upgrades included the complete renewal of water and sewage systems, while gas lines were replaced with modern underground networks.
In addition, restoration and reconstruction works were undertaken on buildings along the route, many of which hold architectural significance dating back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Public amenities such as seating areas and recreational spaces were installed to improve the experience for residents and visitors alike.
The project also establishes direct pedestrian access from Fountains Square to Winter Park, further strengthening Baku’s pedestrian-friendly urban framework. The transformation of vehicle roads into pedestrian zones is expected to boost commercial activity in the area, creating new opportunities for local businesses, including shops, cafes, and restaurants.
The initiative reflects Azerbaijan’s broader commitment to sustainable urban development, with authorities continuing to implement modern planning solutions, including micromobility infrastructure, to enhance the quality of life in Baku.
Officials note that such projects are instrumental in reinforcing Baku’s reputation as a modern, vibrant, and accessible city, widely admired by visitors for its beauty, cleanliness, and well-developed infrastructure.
