Turkmenistan

Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: Turkmenistan and Pakistan are planning to establish direct air links between the two countries as part of broader efforts to enhance transport connectivity and expand economic cooperation.

The matter was discussed during a meeting between Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, Batyr Annayev, and Pakistan’s Ambassador to Turkmenistan, Faryal Leghari, held in Ashgabat on Wednesday.

During the meeting, both sides underscored the importance of strengthening collaboration in the transport sector and advancing joint infrastructure initiatives. They highlighted that improved connectivity, including direct air routes, would facilitate trade, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.

The discussions also covered prospects for developing road and rail networks linking Pakistan with Central Asian states through Turkmenistan. In addition, both sides explored opportunities to enhance trade through rail corridors passing via Iran and Turkmenistan, which could further integrate regional markets.

The two officials agreed on the need for close coordination in preparing trade agreements ahead of an anticipated high-level visit to Pakistan. They reaffirmed their commitment to implementing mutually agreed initiatives and deepening bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors.

The planned measures reflect a shared vision to strengthen regional connectivity and unlock new avenues for economic growth between Pakistan and Central Asia.
