President Ilham Aliyev Receives Credentials of Newly Appointed Iranian Ambassador

Baku, The Gulf Observer: President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received the credentials of Mojtaba Demirchilou, the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran, during a formal ceremony held on Thursday in Baku.
Following the presentation of credentials, President Aliyev held a meeting with Ambassador Demirchilou to discuss the current state and future prospects of Azerbaijan–Iran relations.
President Aliyev fondly recalled his recent telephone conversation with President Masoud Pezeshkian of the Islamic Republic of Iran and highlighted the significance of President Pezeshkian’s visit to Azerbaijan, which he described as opening a new chapter in the overall development of bilateral ties. He further noted that the remarks and positions expressed by the Iranian leader during his visit were positively received by the Azerbaijani public.
Touching on recent regional tensions, President Aliyev reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s principled stance regarding the escalation between Iran and Israel. He reiterated that Azerbaijan was among the first countries to condemn the violence and extend condolences for the Iranian lives lost. The head of state also condemned attempts by certain media and external actors to spread false narratives aimed at undermining Azerbaijan-Iran relations, describing such claims as “complete nonsense.”
Ambassador Mojtaba Demirchilou conveyed the high importance that the leadership of the Islamic Republic of Iran attaches to its relations with Azerbaijan. He emphasized the strong foundation of friendship, neighborliness, and brotherhood that underpins bilateral ties. The ambassador expressed Iran’s deep appreciation for Azerbaijan’s balanced and resolute position during the recent tensions and affirmed Tehran’s confidence that Azerbaijani territory would never be used for any actions against Iran.
Ambassador Demirchilou also thanked the Azerbaijani authorities for facilitating transit conditions for both Iranian and foreign citizens through Azerbaijani territory.
During their conversation, the two sides engaged in comprehensive discussions on enhancing cooperation across political, economic, trade, cultural, and humanitarian domains. Special attention was given to strategic infrastructure projects, including the development of the North-South Transport Corridor and the construction of a new automobile bridge over the Araz River connecting the Aghband and Kelale checkpoints. Both sides emphasized the importance of accelerating the overall development of the Araz transport corridor as a key component of regional connectivity.
The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of the mutual commitment to strengthening Azerbaijan–Iran relations through continued dialogue, cooperation, and mutual respect.
