President Prabowo Calls for Bureaucratic Reform, Reaffirms Zero Tolerance for Corruption

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto on Friday called for sweeping institutional self-reflection across the country’s civil bureaucracy, military, police, and prosecution service, urging state officials to eliminate corruption, strengthen integrity, and uphold their responsibility as public servants.
The President made the remarks during the inauguration of five regional infrastructure projects centred on the Meninting Dam in West Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara.
Addressing senior government officials, Prabowo stressed that all public institutions derive their authority and resources from the Indonesian people and must remain accountable to them.
He urged bureaucrats, members of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the National Police (Polri), and prosecutors to engage in self-evaluation and ensure that their actions reflect the public’s expectations for transparent and accountable governance.
President Prabowo reiterated that the Indonesian people demand a government free from corruption and fraudulent practices, calling on officials across all ministries and state institutions to improve their integrity and avoid actions that undermine public trust.
While acknowledging that recent government reforms have faced resistance from vested interests, which he described as corrupt elements, the President emphasized that anti-corruption efforts must continue in accordance with the rule of law and established legal procedures.
He affirmed that law enforcement must be impartial and apply equally to all citizens, regardless of status or influence, underscoring the government’s commitment to ensuring justice without discrimination.
The President’s remarks come amid heightened public attention surrounding ongoing investigations into alleged corruption and money laundering linked to senior officials within the Attorney General’s Office.
The investigations, which include cases involving the PT Asabri pension fund, Krakatau Steel, and state electricity supply projects, have resulted in raids at multiple locations and the seizure of substantial cash and gold assets by the National Police’s anti-corruption unit.
The operations have also drawn attention following the deployment of Indonesian military personnel to provide security at the private residence of a senior prosecutor in South Jakarta, prompting speculation over possible tensions between the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the National Police (Polri).
The Indonesian military has, however, clarified that the deployment was conducted in response to an official security assistance request from the Attorney General’s Office and was carried out under the authority of Presidential Regulation No. 66/2025, which provides for the protection of prosecutors handling high-risk cases.
President Prabowo’s address underscored his administration’s continued commitment to strengthening good governance, reinforcing institutional accountability, and pursuing anti-corruption measures through due legal process while safeguarding the independence of Indonesia’s law enforcement institutions.
