President Ruto Rebukes Hecklers During Mount Kenya Development Tour

Githunguri, The Gulf Observer: President William Ruto on Saturday firmly addressed a section of Githunguri residents who heckled a leader during his ongoing development tour in the Mount Kenya region. The President was in Kiambu County on the fifth day of his multi-county visit, which also includes Nyeri, as part of his efforts to inspect and promote government development projects.
Tensions briefly flared during a public rally when President Ruto invited Kiambu Woman Representative Anne Wamuratha to address the crowd. A portion of the attendees disrupted her speech with jeers and heckling, forcing her to cut her remarks short.
Following the incident, President Ruto condemned the behavior, questioning the source of such conduct and urging the crowd to maintain decorum during official engagements.
“Sasa nyinyi, nani aliwafunza kupigia watu makelele? Basi makelele sasa itoshe hapo,” he stated in Swahili, which translates to, “Now you, who taught you to heckle people? The noise should stop there.”
This is not the first such disruption witnessed during the President’s tour. Earlier in the week, Kikuyu Member of Parliament Kimani Ichung’wah was met with a hostile reception while addressing a crowd in Ol Kalou, Nyandarua County. The audience, agitated and vocal, prevented the MP from delivering his message despite his appeals for calm.
Ichung’wah, who is part of the President’s delegation, was forced to confront the situation directly, telling the hecklers in Kikuyu, “No one sells me fear.” Nevertheless, the unrest made it impossible for him to proceed with his speech.
These incidents highlight a growing trend of dissatisfaction among sections of the public, occasionally manifesting during political gatherings. Despite the disruptions, President Ruto has continued with his tour, emphasizing the government’s commitment to development in the Mount Kenya region.
The Head of State has been accompanied by various leaders and Cabinet Secretaries during the tour, focusing on project inspections and public engagements meant to foster local development and government accountability.
